We, as friends. . .

We, as friends. . .

We, as friends. . .

They say, as friends, we should always be there in times of need.
But should it always be that way?
That we only exist when we are needed;
And if they are comfortable, we seem strangers to them!

They say, as friends, we bring colors to their lives.
But must we allow them to just use our colors to polish themselves,
And we'll be thrown away when we are dull and almost colorless?

They say, as friends, we should pull them up when they are down.
But should we continue tolerating them to just step on our heads,
So they could rise?
Are we that willing to stay down so they’d be on top?

They say, as friends, we should not count our efforts.
But isn’t it tiring doing just about everything,
Yet every single effort seemed unseen and unappreciated?

They say, as friends, we should not mind the sacrifices.
But isn’t it hurting knowing we have given our best,
That almost nothing is left for ourselves,
Yet they still demand and seem not contented?

They say, as friends, we should understand.
But will it still be okay,
If the same mistakes are committed,
And promises are always busted?

They say, as friends we should love.
But will the care be still tender,
If we are always taken for granted?

All of these might be tolerable.Yet even to someone worth it, it will be draining. Friendship is a two-way relationship. One doesn’t just take, nor does the other just give. It should be complimentary, harmonious and vice-versa.

I do not ask you to say thank you to every favor I do for you, rather show me that what I did was worth it.

I do not expect you to do the same or equally repay what I’m giving you, rather show me that my efforts are not put into waste.

I’m not asking for a perfect friend; rather show me that I am not wrong in choosing you, and that I’m not wasting my time in you.

I just want to impart, that if one is really a friend . . . one would care enough to be sensitive and considerate!
